Customized Short-term Programs at Georgetown University
Examples of such programs are:
a. English for Specific Purposes: a four-week English language course for graduate students from a Japanese university. The students, majoring in Urban Environmental Sciences, received special training in making presentations of their research for international conferences.
b. English for Specific Purposes: a three-week English language course for law students from a Japanese university. The program introduced students to the American legal system and included field trips to the Georgetown Law Center and U.S. public institutions.
c. Teacher Training: a five-week teacher training course for public school teachers of English from Taiwan. The program included daily classes on teaching methodology and American language and culture, observations of classes at area public schools, and weekend field trips to Washington-area sights.
d. Professional Training: a three-week preparatory course for incoming Georgetown MBA students, focusing on re-activating study skills and introducing international students to American academic and business customs.

Examples of such programs are:
a. Teacher Training: a twenty-week intensive teacher training program for experienced teachers offered at a Korean university. The program content included English communication skills, teaching methodology, materials design, lesson planning and teaching practice, during which trainees learned from valuable feedback from peers and instructors.
b. Teacher Training: one- to two-week workshops for teachers of English at universities in Lebanon and Colombia. These programs were designed around specific issues relating to the communicative language teaching approach, such as the use of authentic materials and task-based learning.
c. Intensive English: a two-year Intensive English Language program offered at a Japanese university. The program was taught by Georgetown faculty together with teachers from the partner institution. In the first year, students received intensive instruction on integrated reading/writing and listening/speaking skills for academic purposes. In the second year, students gave oral presentations, wrote essays, and read technical materials.
