TEFL Certificate Program Admission Requirements, Visa Information and Application
MINIMUM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- Undergraduate degree (e.g. Bachelor of Arts degree) in hand by June 1, 2009
- Evidence of having studied a second language
ENGLISH REQUIREMENT FOR NON-NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS
- Internet-based TOEFL score of at least 85 (or its equivalent) or IELTS Band 7 score,
OR
- Bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited institution in the U.S. or other country in which English is the primary language of instruction
VISA INFORMATION
Non-US citizens accepted to the TEFL Program must complete an Immigration Questionnaire (IQ) and provide financial documentation in order to obtain a visa to attend the Practicum. Without the correct visa to enter the country, international students will not be allowed to participate in the Practicum and complete the TEFL Program.
The IQ will be provided to trainees on February 1, 2009 and must be submitted with supporting financial documentation by March 13, 2009. Specific instructions will be provided after the course has begun.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
To apply, prepare your Application Packet which must contain:
- A completed Application Form
- An original university transcript or diploma
- An original TOEFL or IELTS score printout (non-native English speakers only)
- Tuition and Application Fee: $3,700. CLED will accept money orders, personal checks drawn on a U.S. bank, or wire transfer. Please contact cled@georgetown.edu for transfer information. Checks should be made payable to "Georgetown University."
- International student insurance payment of $39 (non-U.S. citizens ONLY)

6 months
On-line: January 5 - May 15, 2009
Practicum at GU: May 18-22, Jun 1–5, Jun 8–12, OR Jun 15-19, 2009
TUITION AND FEES: $3,700 (including $100 non-refundable application fee) due at time of application
10% tuition discount for Georgetown University graduates and employees.

Additional Costs/Fees:
Textbooks: $150 (estimated)
Medical insurance: $39 (mandatory for non-U.S. applicants)
Cost of housing, meals and personal expenses during the practicum: $700 (estimated)
Refund Policy:
Withdrawal before January 5: 100% tuition cost
Withdrawal before January 6: 75% tuition cost
Withdrawal before January 7: 50% tuition cost
No refunds after January 7, 2009.
