TEFL Certificate Program Admission Requirements, Visa Information and Application

 
MINIMUM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

-     Undergraduate degree (e.g. Bachelor of Arts degree) in hand by December 31, 2012.
-     Evidence of having studied a second language


ENGLISH REQUIREMENT FOR NON-NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS

-     Internet-based TOEFL score of at least 85 (or its equivalent) or IELTS Band 7 score,
OR
-     Bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited institution in the U.S. or other country in which English is the primary language of instruction

Non-native English speakers must submit an official TOEFL or IELTS score report unless you attained your degree in a country where English is the primary language of instruction. Your English proficiency will be confirmed prior to admission by a locally administered interview and writing exam.

 

VISA INFORMATION

Non-US citizens who are not currently residing in the US cannot attend Saturday on-campus practicum sessions in tourist status. If you are a foreign student requiring a student visa to attend the practicum, please apply for the Spring semester when one-week practicum sessions are available.


APPLICATION PROCEDURE

To apply, your Application Packet must contain:

• A completed Application Form.
• An original university transcript for highest degree attained. Degrees from overseas universities must be accompanied by a letter/email from a University Official, which includes their name, position/title, and contact information OR a transcript evaluation from a NACES-approved service.
• Latest official TOEFL or IELTS score report (non-native English speakers only)
• Tuition ($3,700), non-refundable Application Fee ($200), and Transcript Fee ($20). Georgetown students, graduates and employees are eligible for a 10% tuition discount. Current GU employees may use Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) benefits. This program is also approved for Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits.

CLED will accept money orders, personal checks drawn on a U.S. bank, or wire
transfer. Please contact cled@georgetown.edu for transfer information. Checks should
be made payable to "Georgetown University."

The TEFL Program is run in the Fall and Spring semesters. The Spring 2012 application period is now closed.

Fall 2012 TEFL Program

Online: August 8 - December 14, 2012
Practicum at GU: 5 Saturdays (November 3, 10, 17 and December 1, 8)
Graduation event: December 17, 5:30-7:00 PM

TUITION AND FEES: $3,920 (includes $200 non-refundable application fee and $20 transcript fee) due at time of application.

Refund Policy:
If you withdraw prior to the first day of class, CLED will refund your tuition. If you withdraw after the first and second days of class, 75% and 50% of the tuition respectively will be refunded. Following the second day of class no refund will be awarded.
